THIS IS A SUMMARY FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE. YOU MUST READ, UNDERSTAND AND FOLLOW THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OUTLINED ON THE CLASS 'B' OPEN BURNING PERMIT APPLICATION IN ADDITION TO BYLAW 2514.

BEFORE YOU BURN, HAVE YOU DONE THE FOLLOWING?
  • Have your Permit?
  • Checked Fire Bans?
  • Checked Venting index?
  • Have a competent supervisor on site at all times?
  • Have your water & extinguisting equipment on site?
  • Do you meet all the requirements?

What is Class B burning?   If your lot is at least 2.47 acres and you have dried tree stumps, trunks, branches and/or prunings to dispose of, then Class B burning is for you!

    CLASS B OPEN BURNING - PERMIT REQUIRED (FREE)
  • Permit Application
  • For thinning and pruning vegetation (FireSmart)
  • ONLY stumps, trunks, branches, and prunings that have been dried for 180 days
  • No compostable or recyclables (no leaves/weeds/needles/etc)
  • No material from offsite
  • NO OTHER MATERIALS ALLOWED!
  • Venting Index is 55 or greater
  • No Fire Ban in effect.
  • Minimum parcel 2.47 acres
  • Piles under 2m in height
  • Piles under 3m in diameter
  • 10m setback from anything
  • Nothing added after 5pm
  • Max 12 Consecutive hours
  • Continuous Supervision
  • Sufficient Water onsite
  • Sufficient Equipment onsite
  • Sufficient Labour onsite
